The association creates a vibrant hub for members to share professional experience and good practice, to facilitate business opportunities for them and to support them in their technology transfer and innovation assignments.
It does this by organizing conferences and training events, by pursuing specialist activities through dedicated sub-groups and by offering high added value web-based tools.

Startups Optimizing Urban Life with Future Internet is one of 16 accelerator projects funded by the European Commission which will be awarding up to €75,000 start-up funding through open calls to SMEs and web entrepreneurs who are developing innovative internet applications with FI-WARE technology, the open cloud-based infrastructure for cost-effective creation and delivery of Future Internet applications and services.

EASME SET UP: The Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises has been set up by the European Commission to manage on its behalf  several EU programmes.

PATENT FILINGS AT EPO REVEAL NEW HIGH IN 2013: The European Patent Office (EPO) received more than 265,000 patent filings in 2013. This is a 2.8% increase over 2012 (257,700 filings), and a new all-time high.

RECENT TRENDS IN FILING STRATEGIES OF US PATENTEES: Now into its 4th edition, inovia's U.S. Global Patent and IP Trends Indicator report highlights some interesting trends affecting the foreign filing strategies of U.S. patentees.

KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER FROM PROs: The European Parliament's Science and Technology Options Assessment unit (STOA) recently commissioned a study on the role of Knowledge Transfer Offices within Public Research Organisations in the field of knowledge transfer. 

THE BUSINESS PLATFORM - Entrepreneurship & management in the early stages of a firm's development. Each year a large number of company start-ups are created throughout Europe. More of these do not develop into medium-sized or large businesses. Dr. Magnus Klofsten, who is director of the Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Linköping University in Sweden, describes in his book eight different elements which e new company start-up must develop if it is to succeed in the long run.


LIST OF H2020 SME INSTRUMENT BENEFICIARIES PUBLISHED. Earlier this month the European Commission published a list of the 155 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that will be first to benefit from its new €3 billion SME Instrument.


TII PARTNER IN CONSORTIUM TO RUN H2020 SME INSTRUMENT COACHING PLATFORM. TII and 3 members are part of the successful consortium led by Innovayt (DK) which has been selected to implement a  coordination and support action aimed at mobilizing a European  community of business innovation coaches and at establishing an infrastructure of coaching and performance tracking tools, which will support the beneficiaries of the new Horizon 2020 SME Instrument.


€80 MILLION IN EU FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR WEB START-UPS. Since the financial crisis, SMEs and start-ups have struggled to obtain funding and since banks are not lending as much as they used to and are more risk-averse, alternative sources are more than welcome.


H2020 SME INSTRUMENT: 6 LESSONS LEARNT FROM THE FIRST EVALUATION. The EASME (Executive Agency for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises) website has published 6 lessons that the European Commission has learnt from the first evaluation exercise following the Horizon 2020 SME Instrument call and which they consider to be useful tips for future applicants.


FAST TRACK TO INNOVATION (FTI): 100 MILLION EURO FOR THE MARKET UPTAKE OF INNOVATIVE IDEAS. In late July, the European Commission presented details of a new €100 million “Fast Track to Innovation” (FTI) pilot action and five innovation prizes under Horizon 2020. The FTI aims to support Europe’s economy by offering innovative businesses and organizations grants to give a final push to get great ideas to market.
